About this piece
Gabbeh and kilim in one piece, woven from undyed, hand-spun sheep's wool. No dye, no chemical finish: the colour is the sheep's own, from cream to light grey.
The surface is divided into twelve rectangles. Inside them the weave is flat like a kilim; the bands between them are knotted with pile like a gabbeh, so the rug has a relief you can see and feel underfoot. In just one rectangle the weaver added a small animal, a quiet signature.
Sustainable from the start: skipping the dye bath saves water and energy, and the wool cannot bleed when cleaned. The natural lanolin of untreated wool keeps dirt out and makes the rug last. A light wool smell at the start fades after two or three days of fresh air.
Size: 100 × 150 cm (3'3" x 4'11").
Suits Scandinavian, Japandi and minimalist rooms, in front of a sofa or beside the bed.
